This is a labeled public sample, not an internal product aggregate. On 14 July 2026 we queried the YouTube Data API for recent Shorts (≤60s) across gaming, tech, and faceless/explainer niches, ordered by view count, then kept videos with measurable public stats. N = 57 Shorts in this run. Instagram Reels are not in the API sample — Reels comparisons below are directional product context only, clearly separated from YouTube numbers.

What “good” looks like in this sample
View distributions are heavy-tailed. The p25–p75 band is more honest than the top viral outlier:

Shorts vs Reels (honest framing)
YouTube Shorts numbers above are measured in this sample. Instagram Reels do not expose the same public view census via a free official API, so we do not invent Reels medians. Practically:
- Shorts and Reels both punish slow hooks; the first 1–2 seconds dominate swipe-away.
- Cross-posting without removing watermarks and without reforming the hook usually underperforms native posts on the second platform.
- If you need channel-level diagnosis across YouTube + Instagram, that is a product workflow (Channel X-Ray), not something a public ranking sample can replace.
How to use this without cargo-culting
- Compare your last 10 Shorts’ median to the niche median above — not to the #1 viral row.
- If you are below p25 in your niche sample, fix packaging/hook before buying more tools.
- Recheck this page after the weekly refresh — samples move.
Limitations
- Search API bias toward currently discoverable / high-view Shorts.
- Hidden like counts reduce like-rate coverage.
- Language and region mix is not stratified.
- Reels: qualitative only until a lawful public data source exists.

Is this internal Grow Creator customer data?
No. v1 is a public YouTube Data API sample. Internal anonymized aggregates may replace parts of this later and will be labeled clearly if/when that happens.
